Windows 8 is finally here for desktop, laptops, tablets and phones.! If you are using earlier version of windows i.e Windows XP (SP3)/Vista/7 and want to try your hands on the new OS then you can upgrade your genuine copy of windows to Windows 8 Pro for INR 1,999 starting today until January 31,2013. Moreover, those users who have purchased a Windows 7 PC after June 2 can download the Windows 8 Pro for a discounted price. So, anyone with a Windows 7 PC bought between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013 can download Windows 8 Pro for an estimated retail price of Rs 699.

Here are the steps how you can upgrade you Windows 7 PC to windows 8 Pro.

Step 1: Visit Microsoft India website there you will find an option "upgrade to Windows 8 Pro".

Step 2: When you click on "Download Pro for INR 1999" you get a pop up asking you to save and run it.

Step 3: Next you will get Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant and this will check for the compatibility of your system and tells you if your system is compatible for W8 OS or not.

You get the compatibility details after checking.

Step 4: If your system is compatible you get the below screen with three options. Choose what you want to keep and proceed.

Step 5: In the next screen you can place your order.

Step 6: Next screen lands you to the checkout screen. Here you also get an option to order a W8 Pro DVD worth Rs 1,060.

Step 7: When you click on checkout, in the next screen you get billing form. Fill the details applicable.

Step 8: When you click next, you are taken to the confirm your order screen. You will also see the details which you entered in the previous screen.
